Historical Trend Analysis and Forecasting of Shoreline Change at the Nile Delta Using RS Data and GIS with the DSAS Tool

Coastal areas are increasingly endangered by climate change and associated sea level rise, which could have serious consequences, such as shoreline erosion coastal city submergence. The current study aims to conduct a historical trend analysis (HTA) predict the changes of Nile Delta coasts. Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) software, with GIS environment, is used for monitoring using number statistical methods (SCE, NSM, EPR, WLR LRR). Satellite images from 1974 2022 were collected geometrically corrected supervised classification detect Delta. was detecting in shoreline, well forecasting future next 10 20 years (2033–2043). critical sections identified, time series conducted. For each section, linear equations established probable shoreline. Between 2022, moved inland different directions due erosion, predictions indicate that this will continue until both 2033 2043, particularly affecting Rosetta Damietta sections. rate ranged between 30–60 10–25 m/year at Damietta, respectively, but Manzala, it 8–15 m/year. Continued severe consequences affect inhabitants, economy, buildings, roads, railways, ports. These need an integrated management strategy incorporates increasing consciousness, urban development, implementation rules adaptation plans. results help protecting areas.
